Surface Treatment with Taylor Sijan
9:00am – 5:00pm
Saturday and Sunday
September 27 – 28, 2025
Learn how to create rich depth on the surfaces of your ceramic work.
In this skill-building workshop, Taylor will demonstrate how she creates layered surfaces on unfired clay. Students will experiment with decorating techniques such as stamping, slip trailing, carving, and underglaze painting using paper resists on both soft and bone dry tile. Special emphasis will be placed on strategies for dealing with tidying up mistakes and making the finished result appear intentional.
Students are encouraged to bring simple stencil shapes cut from newsprint to class for practicing, but not required.
